Aged Care
Intergenerational Playgroups in Aged Care Services
The state and territory playgroup organisations collaborate with residential aged care services to provide structure, support, resources and family referrals to help with the delivery of Intergenerational Playgroups.
Although Intergenerational Playgroups have various formats, mums, dads, grandparents, caregivers, children and babies mostly meet weekly with residents in a safe and child-friendly area within an aged care setting. Attendees engage in a diverse array of play-based learning activities and interactions, fostering connections with other families in their local communities and establishing mutually beneficial relationships with older people. Residents are empowered when they contribute to decision making within the group and enjoy an increase in self-esteem and emotional and social wellbeing.
